Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
my first post!
This is my first entry on Insanejournal. That's kind of exciting, I guess.

And what better way to open a journal than with a 'getting to know you' meme?

Tagged by [info]jillypooh:

1. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
2. Tag seven people to do the same.
3. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag whoever wants to do it.

1. This is the first time I've been tagged for a meme. Ever.
2. Along with writing, I like to draw. I like to think I'm good, but I'm actually reeeally rusty at it.
3. There are several books on my shelf right now that I've bought but not gotten around to reading. I used to never buy a book without reading it first.
4. I like winter, because it is so much easier to bundle up and get warm than try and find a way to cool down.
5. I'm a cat person. I might one day like dogs, but who knows.
6. Although I love learning (and want to be an eternal student), I'm most likely a Hufflepuff. I think Hufflepuffs don't get enough love, so I'm proud to be one.
7. Some day I want to write a book. I'm becoming increasingly depreased about life, though, and I fear I'll never follow through with my dreams.

I don't really feel comfortable tagging anyone, since this is my first entry and everyone's only a recent friend, but randomly chosen from my f-list: [info]madam_minnie, [info]calico_jynx, [info]curiousqity, [info]inell, [info]nicbemused, [info]pre_raphaelite1, and [info]zetsumeido. Feel free to ignore though. :)

I suppose I should start archiving my fic here.  And changing my layout.

Memes are a grand way to start off journals! Especially in light of crazed friending fests. I always get lost in them. :P

And yeah the fic archiving and layout changing seems to take forever. I only last night figured out how to add in a layer so I could get Smooth Sailing here. :D

hehe

and who knows... one day I might actually add interests to my profile. Won't that be exciting?

I know all about the learning thing. I'm thinking about going back to school for that very reason.

The strange thing is, I knew I liked learning the entire time I was at school, but it wasn't until my last year that I realized how much I truly loved it. I would sit in a classroom and just bask. *is dork* Going to classes, writing papers... it was a lot of work, but so rewarding!

Hey, we have #3 & #4 in common. ;)

And since you're the writing type, writing through your depression might help you get past it, or at least help you get some perspective--I think that's the worst part of being depressed, the way it completely distorts the world and your emotions until you feel like there's not a speck of hope anywhere. Journaling in plain old spiral bound notebooks that I never show anyone made a huge difference for me, and I'm manic-depressive.

What kind of fic do you write?

I find one of the side effects of being depressed is that I can't seem to write anything... no matter how wonderful the idea, I just sit in front of my computer staring blankly. I think I overreach, however, and attempt projects too large for me. Maybe using a spiral notebook like you suggest, and writing snippets or drabbles? hmmm...

I'm all about the HP fanfic, and most of my stories thus far have been centering around Remus/Sirius. However, I'm branching out into Ron/Hermione, and I'm trying to build the Frank and Alice Longbottom fandom. I find that I usually write angsty, dramatic stuff with hopefull endings.

As for outside of fandom, I write fantasy. Magic, dragons, you name it. Heavily influenced by Medieval literature. I haven't written too far into any of my Ideas, but it looks like I'm going to end up writing young adult fiction.

Oh, I completely understand. I have no initiative to do anything when I'm depressed, least of all write a coherent story. I mean more like writing about your depression, how you're feeling or the circumstances in your life or whatever comes to mind when you sit down with your notebook. Kind of like freewriting.

It was slow going for me at first, and I'd only write a little at a time, but gradually it's become a really powerful coping mechanism for me. It helps me clarify what's going on both emotionally and in my life as a whole, which in turn helps me pull my head out of my ass when I start to get really mired in depression.

Hee hee, you already know I loves me some Sirius/Remus! I have a bit of a penchant for Ron/Hermione, too--their Deathly Hallows kiss was so fucking cute I could hardly stand it! I'll be interested to read some of your fic once you get it moved over to IJ.

Oh, I love YA lit! Have you ever read The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, or his other books? I bet you'd like him if you're into fantasy. I still read YA books even though I'm 24, there's just something about that genre that's so appealing when it's well done. We were all young once, you know?

That would probably help... Especially since I think my depression is related to being overwhelmed. It's so confusing sometimes. My mom will ask if I'm ok and if it was something she said or did. I always say it isn't (because it isn't, not really), but on some level I think it might be, only I can't really explain.

Their kiss was so THEM! It came at the perfect moment. I was so glad when it didn't happen when Ron returned to rescue Harry and the sword, because that would've been too cliche. I'm going to start transferring my fic tonight... probably one every few days. :)

I haven't read Golden Compass, but it's funny that you mention it because I had just put it on my 'To Read' list! I'm all about the YA. Those types were the first types of books I bought (Redwall, Tamora Pierce) even though I was end of high school at the time. I still 'collect' the series that I loved as a teen. They're great for quick reading and make me feel happier on bad days!

And because I haven't met anyone yet whose read these... Have you ever heard of the 'Wren' series? I believe it was a trilogy, and two were named 'Wren's Quest' and 'Wren's War'.

Oooo, I haven't read the Wren series. I'll have to add it to my book list!

Anything you'd like to be drawn in particular? Or do you just want me to dig up something I've done?

:)

I meant old stuff you've done, but if you're allowing me to request, this could be dangerous. I'm going to request a zombie.

I always come up Hufflepuff on every single test I've ever done ever, I think I got Gryffindor one time I cheated, lol. Wait, surely that means I'm actually Slytherin?

Meme

I got tagged t'other day, and I was going to think up more quirks, but I decided the rest were too negative, and that'd be bad, to tell I mean *^_^*

A Hufflepuff with Slytherin tendencies... A Slytherpuff?

You should be proud of the Hufflepuff! Embrace it! hehe

I do love it, heh, plus badgers=awesome. Mines called Frank, Frankly, he's a badger. In the only online RPG Ive played in I was head of Hufflepuff and professor of Divination, but that sort of went tits up... as these things do sometimes, it was loads of fun while it was going good though :D

Badgers are awesome! They really are quite scary beasts when they're angry (which = all the time).

Wasn't Helga Hufflepuff great at Divination, hence the teacup as horcrux? It would've been interesting to have that tie into the books more. She's just as ignored as those of her house :(
